Last week we got a call from someone who is covered by one of our health insurance plans. Specifically, she's on a health savings account compatible plan (HSA) and was at the pharmacy.

She'd been prescribed a drug that cost $220 for a 30-day supply. She called us because she really only needed a two-week supply, and if it worked for her, would then want the remaining pills.

Because HSA plans (by design) don't have a copay for prescriptions, she wondered what to do.

We suggested that she ask the pharmacy to dispense only 14 pills, and charger her for that quantity. Then, if she later needed the rest, she could go back and buy them, too.

In her words, this advice "saved the day" for her. She was able to leave the pharmacy with her needed prescription, but without having to spend far more on it than she had originally thought.

Keep this in mind for yourself. And if you need health insurance for your family, or for a company, please contact us for a quote.
